Consider becoming a Community Ambassador! The Bergen Volunteer Center is actively seeking experienced professionals for 4 – 6 hours a month to help launch an exciting new program: Redefining Retirement. The Mission: To be the go-to leader connecting retirees seeking engagement in their communities with nonprofits seeking volunteers, and to enable them, together, to turn caring into meaningful action. 

The Community Ambassador will help to recruit and connect retired volunteers throughout Bergen County with nonprofits who need volunteers with specific skills to help them best serve their communities and achieve their goals. The Bergen Volunteer Center will provide training and materials to guide recruiting, interviewing, and training.

Role

To advocate for the experience, skills, work ethics, and value seasoned workers bring to the volunteer “workforce” To work with the Volunteer Center to coordinate recruitment of age-friendly nonprofit agencies and retirees looking to volunteer in them To assess those nonprofits’ specific skills-based or general volunteer needs. To assess prospective volunteers’ interests, experience, commitment, and general qualifications to connect them with the nonprofits looking for volunteers who bring the skills they need to succeed

We receive funds from various grant sources and dispurse it to cover various costs like marketing, advertising and miscellaneous operating costs. The assistant treasurer would help with the following duties of the treasurer:

Handle the receipt and disbursement of all chapter revenues and expenditures. Maintain an accurate record of all financial transactions. Balance accounts on a monthly basis. Submit monthly treasurer’s report to the chapter chair. Account for money, property and in-kind gifts to the chapter. Keep records for tax and safekeeping purposes and sees that proper federal, state and/or local tax and other chapter financial reports are duly filed.

Volunteer: Parking/Traffic Attendant needed for Sunday Mornings

Volunteer: Volunteer Outdoor Field Trip Educators

Love to teach? Share the power of fresh local foods through education!

City Green is looking for enthusiastic volunteer outdoor field trip educators to work with students PreK-6th grade at City Green’s Farm Eco-Center and Learning Garden. City Green hosts classes from northern NJ school districts with a focus on schools from urban at-risk communities. These outdoor field trips are used as an opportunity to enhance students’ academic achievement through hands-on experiential learning and interaction with the natural world.

Volunteers will be trained to work as field trip educators to provide lessons on gardening and farming, sustainable agriculture, healthy eating and cooking, animal husbandry, native plants and wildlife, and a variety of environmental topics.

Spring field trips are held throughout the month of May, and fall field trips are held in October. Volunteer shifts are Monday –Friday and are typically 8:30am – 11am and/or 11:30am - 2pm. Time commitments should be 1-2 days per week, 3-6 hours per day. Experience working in child education or an environmental field is preferred but not required.

Volunteer: Urban Farming Volunteer

Every Wednesday evening, from 5-8 pm, the City Green Schultheis Farm location in Clifton is seeking volunteers to work alongside the urban farmer.  An urban farm volunteer will assist in a variety of activities including weeding, watering, planting, harvesting crops, and specialty projects as they occur.  You will learn basic concepts of organic food production, participate in a unique community project, meet new people with similar interests, and enjoy the great outdoors!  All volunteers are asked to dress for the weather, wear sunscreen/hats to protect against the sun, wear closed-toe shoes (sneakers/workboots), and bring water.  

Interested volunteers should contact City Green to be added to the Volunteer email list.  New volunteers must complete an application form prior to participation.  This can be done in advance or upon arrival to the farm.  The form can be accessed here.  The 2017 Volunteer season will run every Wednesday from April 19th - October 25th.
