Who We Are

Mission: To go therefore and teach all nations (Matthews 28:19-20), as in doing so the Mount Zion Baptist Church of South Hackensack will present the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout our community and with whomever we may come in contact with, and to equip disciples for service through the preaching of the gospel, teaching and worship so that men, women, boys, and girls may fully understand the new commandment, “That ye love one another” (John 13:34-35).

Mount Zion Baptist Church, established in 1923 by Rev. F. C. Cheely, began in Hackensack, NJ, before relocating to its current South Hackensack site in 1926. Incorporated in 1927, the church expanded several times: adding stained-glass windows in the 1950s under Rev. Issac Cowels and further enlarging the building in 1979 under Rev. Dr. Curry. Today, the church features a 104.2-foot-long aisle, 38 pews, a choir loft, and a balcony, showcasing its enduring legacy as a Baptist congregation devoted to worship and community.
