Bergen Volunteers - Chore Service

Mission: To provide human service and training programs to improve lives and strengthen communities.

A Senior Services program of Bergen Volunteers, CHORE was established in 1977 and provides skilled volunteers the opportunity to perform minor home repairs that keep Bergen County senior and disabled residents safe in their own homes. There is no charge for service. Recipients only pay for the parts necessary to complete the repair.

Typical repairs include:

• Installing grab bars and wooden railings
• Replace existing outlets and switches
• Repair leaky faucets or toilets
• Changing storm/screen windows
• Installing and removing window AC units
• Changing light bulbs and smoke alarm batteries
• Installing door locks and doorbells

CHORE volunteers are not licensed contractors. Therefore, there are some jobs that cannot be done.

CHORE does not service emergencies.

We do not do any outdoor work, painting, tiling, work requiring high ladders, door or window replacements, heavy lifting, new wiring/plumbing, or appliance repairs. CHORE does not perform cosmetic repairs or provide interior decorating services.
