Families For Families

Mission: To harness the immense generosity and goodwill we see in our area and use it to improve the lives of those in need.

We are families connecting families in an effort to improve the lives of those in need. Our goal is to provide clothing, housewares, furniture, food and necessities to local families in Bergen and Passaic County (New Jersey) homeless shelters and those who have recently moved to more permanent housing. Additionally, we host holiday activities where everyone can celebrate together and start to create lasting bonds between families, volunteers and donors. Families for Families is a 501c3 charity.

• Furnishing Great Starts:  We provide furniture, towels and sheets, household items, decor and clothing for residents referred to us by their social workers.  We work primarily with social service agencies to identify families moving out of shelters and into an apartment, and we strive to turn their empty apartment into a comfortable home.  Weekend movers are always needed (3-4 hour shifts).  Must be high school age or older.  Volunteers also help organize our furniture warehouse and household warehouse items.
• Food Pantry: Our food pantry needs volunteers to help receive, sort and distribute food to families in need. Sometime we need delivery drivers to drop food to those who do not have transportation.
• Special occasion and holiday programs:  at different points in the year, we collect needed items (e.g. backpacks, school supplies) or host holiday events (trunk or treat with pumpkin painting and costume giveaway).  There is always something to get involved in.
