Who We Are

Mission: To provide a wide range of services for people with disabilities in the areas of advocacy, information and referral, peer support, and independent living skills training.

Greater Bergen Community Action (GBCA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing poverty in northern New Jersey by addressing the causes and conditions of economic insecurity. They offer a range of programs aimed at empowering individuals and families to achieve self-sufficiency.

What We Do

Key Services:

  • Early Childhood Education: GBCA’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs provide free early childhood education and family services to low-income families in Bergen County, Jersey City, and Paterson, NJ. These programs prepare children for kindergarten and enhance their emotional and physical well-being.
  • Adult Education & Training: The Education and Training Center offers skills and knowledge to lower-income, older, and foreign-born individuals, helping them perform daily activities, achieve success in the job market, and support a better future in the USA.
  • Utility Assistance: GBCA provides assistance to income-qualified individuals experiencing financial challenges, helping them pay their energy bills and remain in their homes.
  • Housing/Financial Counseling: GBCA offers a full array of programs and services aimed at helping individuals and families gain greater stability in their financial lives through financial literacy education and housing counseling.

Through these initiatives, GBCA strives to empower individuals and strengthen communities, fostering sustainable families and neighborhoods.
