Who We Are
Mission: To ensure equal access to justice for low-income residents of Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic Counties in New Jersey.
Northeast New Jersey Legal Services (NNJLS) was founded in 2003 through the merger of three county-based legal aid organizations established in the 1960s to address the lack of affordable legal assistance for underserved populations. We provide free legal help to residents of Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic Counties experiencing poverty, including seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those facing homelessness.
What We Do
Northeast New Jersey Legal Services (NNJLS) achieves its mission through a range of focused services. We provide free legal assistance in civil matters, specializing in housing, consumer rights, family law, and public benefits, ensuring clients can address critical issues like eviction, debt collection, custody arrangements, and access to income support.
We also run specialized programs for veterans, seniors, survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, immigrants, students, and others facing unique legal challenges. Additionally, we promote community legal education to empower residents with knowledge of their rights and responsibilities. Through these efforts, we help underserved individuals and families navigate legal obstacles and secure justice.
