Who We Are

Mission: To provide sports training and athletic competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities, completely free of charge.

Special Olympics New Jersey, a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization, is dedicated to bringing pride into the lives of all involved. Everyday, we make a difference in the lives of our athletes, families and the communities in which they live. As a global movement, Special Olympics reaches 5.7 million Special Olympics athletes and Unified Sports teammates in 172 countries. Special Olympics New Jersey is making an impact on thousands of athletes and their communities throughout the state.

What We Do

Special Olympics New Jersey (SONJ) provides sports training and athletic competition opportunities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Through year-round programs, SONJ promotes physical fitness, courage, and skill development, offering athletes a chance to participate in various Olympic-style sports. The organization also fosters inclusion, empowerment, and personal growth, enabling individuals with disabilities to experience the joy of competition and achievement in a supportive and encouraging environment. Additionally, SONJ offers health programs, leadership development, and community engagement opportunities for its athletes.
