Table to Table

Mission: To rescue fresh, excess food that would otherwise go to waste and deliver it to those in need.

Table to Table is a community-based food rescue program that collects fresh, wholesome food that would otherwise be wasted and delivers it (free of charge) to community agencies that serve the hungry in Northern NJ. We “rescue” food from about 150 donors (supermarkets, food distributors, restaurants and commercial kitchens) and deliver it to over 250 community organizations including food pantries, shelters, day care/after school programs, senior adult centers, and programs serving the working poor. In 2020, we rescued enough food for 38 million meals!

Our Goal: Eliminate Food Waste & End Hunger

Every day almost every other bite of our food is tragically wasted, but by rescuing the excess we can fight the battle of hunger in our local communities. Food Rescue turns tons of food into countless meals for hungry children and families while at the same time helps to preserve our environment.

• Forty percent of the food in the United States goes uneaten (that is more than 20 pounds of food per person in this country each and every month!).
• This uneaten food ends up rotting in landfills where organic waste is created, accounting for 16% of US methane emissions.
• If just 15% of this food is rescued, it would feed 25 million Americans each year.
• Rescuing fresh and nutritious meats, produce, and dairy products that would otherwise be wasted not only feeds, but also improves the health and development of hungry people of all ages.
• For our environment, and for the well-being of our neighbors, food rescue just makes good sense.

Trucks and professional drivers pick up large quantities of food from regularly scheduled food donors. But now, guided by the Table to Table I-Rescue app, volunteer drivers can help us deliver smaller amounts of previously un-rescued food to nonprofits and the homes of families facing food insecurity in Bergen County
