Description

Center for Food Action (CFA) works to prevent hunger and homelessness in northern New Jersey. Volunteers support weekly food distribution serving local families in Hackensack.

Responsibilities include packing food bags, organizing pantry items, setting up distribution areas, and assisting staff during guest service. This is a high-priority, guest-facing shift requiring consistent weekly attendance.

Volunteer Commitment (Required):
CFA is an ongoing volunteer program, and we ask volunteers to commit to one shift per week on the same day, at the same time, and at the same location on a consistent, recurring basis. We do not offer one-time-only individual volunteer opportunities, and all sites are closed on weekends.

Physical Requirements:
Volunteering may involve standing for extended periods, bending and reaching, lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds, and working in an active distribution environment. Closed-toe shoes are required.

Volunteers must be 16+ and agree to CFA policies and Code of Conduct.

Next Steps:
As a next step, we ask that all prospective volunteers complete our full intake form through our system. You can access it here:

Volunteer Page: https://cfanj.org/volunteer/
Direct Link: https://app.initlive.com/JE/f7eepac7w3qoih (please read through this page before you start the application)

This form helps us with proper screening, site placement, and compliance requirements.

Once volunteer slots become available, we will reach out with next steps. We OFTEN will have a waiting list (except for community service vols and group day of service events)

Many thanks again for your interest in supporting our mission — we’re grateful for your desire to serve the community.
