The Bright Side Family is a nonprofit that provides affordable housing, affordable assisted living, and support services that respond to the changing needs and preferences of low-and-moderate-income older adults

The Bright Side Family Responsibilities of Board Members:

The Board of Directors serves as the leadership body of the organization and is responsible for determining the organization's mission and purpose, strategic planning, providing fiduciary oversight, monitoring the organizations programs and services, fundraising and development and selecting and evaluating the Executive Director.


Individual Board members are expected to:

  • Know the organization's mission, policies, programs and needs
  • Review and understand the organization's financial statements
  • Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for The Bright Side Family to advance its mission
  • Leverage connections, networks and resources that will help the organization achieve its mission and that can benefit the organization's fundraising and reputational standing
  • Give a meaningful personal financial donation
  • Prepare for, attend and actively participate in Board meetings
  • Participate fully in one or more committees
  • Adhere to the conflict of interest policy

 

Desired Assets and Skills

We review a candidate’s professional background, overall skills, and contact networks to assess their ability to fulfill two key Board functions of governance and fundraising. Prior board experience is an asset, but we look for relevant experience that demonstrates leadership, integrity, and accountability.

 

Time and Financial Commitments

Our Board Directors serve as volunteers only (i.e., not paid) as in the majority of boards.
